Continued investment in search engine optimisation (SEO) is essential for businesses, even during the current economic downturn, it has been claimed.

According to Kevin Gibbons of SEOptimise, SEO and other online marketing tools allow businesses to accurately monitor costs and returns on investment.

Writing for Econsultancy, he said that by their very nature, online marketing techniques are flexible and quickly adaptable and companies can adjust their marketing budgets based on how much revenue they are generating.

He added: "It is those firms which continue to focus on raising their online presence that will come out on top, both in terms of search engine rank pages and in business."

Meanwhile, SEO copywriters have been warned not to stifle their creativity as a result of keyword use.

Mike Yanke, an SEO expert from the Online Marketing Blog, said writers should never become untrue to their creative personalities and keyword integration should be taken as a challenge not a hindrance.
