According to Peter Da Vanzo of SEO Book, concentrating on one particular area and going into the relevant subject matter in detail can help to earn the respect of other websites and blogs in the wider industry.
This could aid link-building efforts and potentially boost search engine rankings, he indicated, particularly for those just starting out with a new site.
"When you start a site, you don't have much in the way of leverage. You don't have an established reputation, which can make it difficult to get attention and get links," Mr Da Vanzo explained.
Earlier this year, the 2009 Online Advertising Attitudes Report from Addvantage Media revealed that over one-third of British web users spend most of their online time on specialist sites, such as niche news services.
