Google SEO Master Cutts Gives Top Tips Developing an online niche, providing good content and having a fast website are the top three Search Engine Optimisation tips from Google’s head of Webspam, Matt Cutts.

Speaking at an event last week at the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, the Google software engineer advised that attaining top Google rankings is best done by exploiting a niche online and gaining a reputation in that niche. Thereafter, providing quality content on a fast and reliable website will ensure ranking success.

Using the example of mobile phones, Mr Cutts explained that it would be very difficult to become a global authority on such a vast topic. Instead, picking a niche such as iPhones in London is a much easier niche to target and to become authoritative on. “If you want to get a reputation, start small, expand in your niche,” Mr Cutts was quoted by the Irish Times.

Having established a niche, the next step to building a solid online reputation is to provide excellent content about your niche subject. Mr Cutts suggested a host of ideas including publishing original material online in the form of news or research, creating a blog, writing free downloadable software apps and providing online tutorials.

Google’s unofficial mantra: “Content is King” remains as true today in the fast-paced world of online SEO as it ever has done: “The more content you have, the more ways we can find you,” Mr Cutts said. Finally, the Google engineer advised having a fast and reliable site: “If you make your site faster, people will use it more”.
